Shared Web Hosting

Shared hosting, also popularly called Virtual hosting (don't get it confused with Virtual Server hosting), is a web host that shares a single server resources such as harddisk, CPU, memory, operating system, application, bandwith, etc. with many other web sites, sometimes as many as hundreds of them. Because of this sharing scheme, the cost can be pushed down that makes this kind of web hosting is a very cost effective solution.

Virtual web hosting by far is the most popular web site hosting and accounted to some 90 per cent of all web sites because of the economical price despite the ability to perform fairly well, especialy for personal to small business web sites. However if you are running a more complex web sites then you may consider other types of web hosting such as Virtual Private Server.

So if you are running a small web site, Shared hosting can be a good solution for you as the cost is the cheapest among web hosting types and generally most shared web hosts are usually capable of providing an aray of good features such as support for multiple domain hosting, various popular pre-installed applications such as forum, content management, wiki site type creation, blogs, etc. while giving you ample of server space for your files and email boxes.

The downfall of this Virtual hosting is that you will not get total "isolation" from other web sites within the same server. So if a web site gets trouble with certain application, or is consuming excessive resources (CPU time, memory, bandwith, etc.) your site will also be in jeopardy.
